Canada almost fixed passports a decade ago

Did you know Canada almost launched online passport applications back in 2013? On the Functional Government Podcast, I dug into what happened when we tried to modernize the process — and why it didn’t stick.

The biggest obstacle wasn’t technology. It was the form itself: different people need different parts, the rules change based on where you were born and whether your name has changed, and it’s where most mistakes happen. Getting people to fill out the form correctly online was the unsexy but essential challenge. This episode explores what happened when an agile approach met bureaucratic reality.
